6N5375: Identify each of the components State any necessary set-up procedures or minor adjustments for each component: Industrial Pneumatic Systems Coursework, Ireland

Question 1

Identify each of the components.
State any necessary set-up procedures or minor adjustments for each component.
State any maintenance activities that may be necessary in relation to each component.

Components  from left to right:

Manual 3/2 pilot operated valve
Filter regulator with digital gauge
Filter with manual drain
Branching module
3/2 solenoid operated valve
On off valve
Branching module

On the first valve hose to be checked when seting up for air leaks as well as last branching module,  on the filter regulator we can turn the knob to regulate the pressure, filter is used to filter out moisture from the air manually by turning the knob on the bottom of the filter.

Check for air leaks and change the filter when required.

Question 2

Identify these three components in the image.
This cylinder is being used as a clamp, insert an image for a valve that could control this cylinder in such a way that if power was lost when the cylinder was clamping, it would not retract.
The sub-system is to be monitored and controlled by a SCADA system. What error messages do you think would be necessary to add to the SCADA system in relation to it?
What actions in relation to the electro-pneumatic sub-system would an operator/maintenance person need to be able to carry out via the SCADA system?

Question 3

Using photographs of the necessary components show and explain how air can be safely shut off from a machine cell. The cell is to be capable of being shut off both manually, and automatically. For manual shut-off it should be possible to apply a lock to the valve.

Question 4

Identify each of the valves on th e two manifolds shown below. There are three types of valves on the manifolds.
Where it is not possible to fully identify a valve, make reasoned observations in relation to that valve.
What is the function of the light-blue items in the first photo?

Question 5

List and discuss the possible conditions that have given rise to the alarm message.

Question 6

Using images from the web show a soft-start valve (or a combined soft-start and dump valve).
Explain how this valve works?
Show clearly how the ramp time adjustment is achieved.
Is it a requirement to use this valve in a system?

State the authority (or authoritative source) on which you are basing your opinion

Soft-start dump valves allow downstream pressure to gradually increase on initial start-up before fully opening to deliver line pressure. The dump function allows the system to be exhausted quickly when required.

Question 7

Identify this component.
Discuss any safety issues that could arise when it is used in a circuit.
What is the purpose of the red ‘screw-head’?
