The force that pushes, activates, or drives someone to do action might be thought of as motivation. It is something that motivates a person to take action and encourages him to keep going in the right direction in order to achieve his objectives.
These factors make it easy to distinguish between internal and extrinsic motivation:
When someone is motivated only by internal factors, such as enjoyment of the process or seeing it as an opportunity to learn something new or explore a concept, they are more likely to act in ways that fully utilize their potential. Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, is when someone engages in a behavior in an effort to obtain a benefit or stay out of harm’s way.
In intrinsic motivation, the activity that the individual has control over and which is thought to be significant is what drives them. As a result, it forces people to engage in an activity against their choice or out of desire rather than for the benefit it will offer.
Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, focuses on the benefit obtained from completing the activity. This indicates that it compels individuals to take action in exchange for a material or intangible benefit.
In intrinsic motivation, the locus of control lies inside the person, who decides to perform the task. Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, places the focus of control beyond the purported task-performer.
In addition to finding potential and exploring talents, intrinsic motivation tries to nurture, grow, and fulfill the individual. Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, aims to obtain a benefit or prevent an undesirable consequence.
The fundamental psychological requirements of a person for independence, competence, etc. can be met through intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation, in contrast, embraces external advantages like money, power, celebrity, etc. but does not satisfy a person’s basic psychological needs.
