Society has a long-held expectation that the media should engage with and monitor the government and report information back to the public. Journalists often have a keen desire to be amid government officials to get the scoop and report information back to the public. In some instances, however, these ideals can become lost in the myriad of “favors” that occur when journalism and government intersect.

Reflect: Consider the role of media in reporting about the government regarding what Hirst (2013) says in his article. Then, discuss your views on the things that Kato (2014) highlights about the prime minister’s dealings with the media for political favor.
Write: After you have thought critically about these aspects of the two articles, discuss your own views in 250 to 300 words. In your initial post, you must include at least one in-text citation from the reading material and an additional in-text citation from a scholarly resource located in the UAGC Library or from another credible source. At the end of your post, include your name and full references for all sources cited in your post. All citations and references must adhere to APA style guidelines as outlined in the APA Essay Checklist for Students (Links to an external site.)
